Klis Fortress - From Kings to Game of Thrones

Klis Fortress – situated on a cliff between the two mountains Kozjak and Mosor, it’s a place of turbulent history, wars, and conquests of different rulers.

Since the 2nd century BC, the Illyrian tribe of Delmata has inhabited this area and built a small stronghold that later became a huge castle—the seat of Croatian dukes and kings. In this way, it holds great significance for Croatian history and national heritage.

Visit this powerful and mysterious structure, which offers a unique view of the Dalmatian coast and islands and discover why this place has been called the “Key to Dalmatia” since ancient times.

During this historic tour, your guide will tell you the story of the battles fought by the Klis Uskoks and their brave captain, Petar Kružić, against the Ottomans, which took place here during the 16th century.

And of course, for all Game of Thrones fans, this place is an absolute must-visit. If you’ve watched all the seasons of the series, you surely know that Klis Fortress was used to represent the city of Meereen during filming of the fourth season of the popular TV series.

After completing the tour, we will visit the Olive Oil Museum, where you will learn about the history of olive oil production in Croatia. After that, you will enjoy a tasting of olive oil and other local traditional products, with the option to purchase them.
